The swimmers at Nudgee kept the ball rolling on Day 3 of the Queensland Championships with another 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze. That is the most amount of medals won on one night since David Proud started coaching at Nudgee, well done!
Swim of the day went to Tom Sands for his Gold medal winning performance in the Boys 13yrs 100m Butterfly. Tom has done a great job in the training pool over the last 12 months and it has really shown in the drops he has made. 12 months ago his best was 1:13.8 and he placed 22nd so to come in and win a Gold medal with a 1:01.8 is fantastic!
Luke Barbour kept his great meet going with a Gold medal in the Boys 13yrs 200m IM and a big 8.7 second best. Luke really had to fight in the last 10m to get over the line first, well done!
Jade Starr swam a great closing 50m to win the Gold medal in the 15yrs 100m Freestyle, she also more importantly backed up and showed great resilience to place 4th in the 200m Butterfly about 30 minutes after racing 100m Freestyle. Nicole Sanders and Brittany Courtney made it 3 Nudgee Girls in the top 6 on that event.
Earlier in the day Tiana Kritzinger claimed the Gold medal in the Girls 13yrs 800m Freestyle winning the event for a second time in 2 years. She took the race on from the start and showed no fear. Almost as impressive she backed that up with two finals swims (200m IM and 100m Butterfly) in the evening and swam faster and climbed a place in the final in both races. Great swimming Tiana!
Thomas Connellan had a big day of racing winning a Silver medal in the Boys 13yrs 1500m Freestyle then like Tiana backed up for a final of 200m IM and went quicker in the final to finish 4th.
Millie Warraker won her first medal of the meet with a fantastic Silver medal in the Girls 12yrs 100m Butterfly. Millie certainly attacked the race going into the turn almost touching in a best time at the 50m.
Ethan Wildin Murrihy also won his first individual medal winning the Silver medal in the Boys 15yrs 100m Freestyle (52.39). Ethan touched the wall in 5th at the 50m mark before coming over 3 boys in the final 50m to finish behind Thomas Hauck and win the Silver.
Lachlan Gilbert swam another best time in the Boys 16yrs 100m Breaststroke to claim the Bronze medal in 1:05.71. Lachy changed gears through the second 50m to finish strong and swim over 3 swimmers. David Proud didn’t actually think Lachy was going to even make it this meet back in June when he broke his leg so to come away with a medal and 2 best times so far is really encouraging.
Special mention to Jacob Krayem who swam a 10 second best time this morning in the 400m Freestyle to finish 12th (2nd reserve for the final). Jacob turned up to finals with a professional attitude and prepared like he was in that final. Then one boy happened to get injured in the warm up and because the first reserve didn’t show Jacob got a swim and then he stepped up to beat someone in the final to finish 9th. Jacobs great attitude allowed him an extra hit out in a State final.
Special mention to Tom Raymond who earned himself a swim off in the Boys 15yrs 100m Freestyle. This was swum immediately following his 200m Butterfly heat. He stepped up and swam 1.2 seconds faster which is a huge achievement coming back on the second 50m like a train in 26.4. Tom then backed up and came 4th in the Boys 200m Butterfly.
12yr olds Hana Costello and Poppy Stephen made another final each today in the 200m IM and 100m Butterfly both finishing 4th and Lauren Walker made her first QLD LC final with a great swim in the Girls 15yrs 200m Butterfly.
Altogether we made 24 Top 10 finishes yesterday which is really pleasing to see the clubs depth
Hopefully more to follow with today's results - we're looking forward to it!!
