Queensland State Championships Day 2
Nudgee College made a great start to the individual events with 22 Top 10 finishes and another 2 GOLD medals!
Swim of the day went to Luke Barbour for his superb BRONZE in the Boys 13yrs 200m Freestyle. Luke started the day on 2:08.6 before dropping to 2:04.1 in the heats and then swimming a further 1.2 seconds quicker last night to go 2:02.9 and win his first individual QLD medal. Well done Luke!
Thomas Connellan picked up his 3rd GOLD of the meet so far in the same race as Luke. Thomas stopped the clock in 1:58.00 to finish ahead of Flynn Southan from Bond. That was a 3.3 second best time for him so a big well done on the 1-3 finish boys.
Jade Starr won her first GOLD of the Championships in the Girls 15yrs 200m Backstroke (2:17.2). She did this after making her first ever Open final in the Women’s Open 200m Freestyle where she placed 9th. That was a great experience for the 15yr old that she can take forward into her training over the next 6 months.
Special mention to Lachlan Gilbert swimming a big best time in the 16yrs Boys 400m IM (4:41.7) to finish in 4th position. 6 months ago Lachy broke his femur so coming back from that and going a best time is a great effort!
There were also big best times today for Dom Osswald and Aidan Easton in the Boys 12 & 13yrs 200m Breaststroke, Jed Manson in the 200m IM and Brooke Monte qualifying for the 100m Breaststroke final.
Harrison Turner broke 60 seconds for the first time in the 100m Butterfly on his way to the 14yrs final and Jacob Krayem qualified for his first State final in 2yrs in the Boys 16yrs 100m Freestyle.
Millie Warraker and Hana Costello qualified for their first ever finals in the 12yrs Girls 200m Freestyle and both went quicker from heats to finals Millie finishing in 2:15.00 and Hana in 2:18.4
Looking forward to another big day of racing today!
