Queensland State Championships Day 1

Nudgee College Swimming had an outstanding start to the Queensland Championships absolutely smashing last year’s medal tally after Relays finishing the day with 5 GOLD and 3 BRONZE medals. The club won 2 Bronze medals after relays in 2017. The club placed 2nd on the medal tally after the first day of racing, great effort!

The club claimed 20 top 10 finishes which is an incredible effort by all.

Swim of the day went to Girls 12/under Medley Relay that were Queensland Champions, the team was Poppy Stephen, Hana Costello, Millie Warraker and Laura Poon. Every girl stepped up and did a great job for that team to win the Gold Medal.

Other Golds went to Jed Manson, Thomas Connellan, Harrison Turner and Luke Barbour in Boys 14/under 4x50 Medley Relay and then they backed up to win another Gold medal in the 4x50m Freestyle relay. Well done on the double Gold.

Our 9/10 Girls were not to be outdone by the Boys. The team of Bless Daly, Kaitlyn diFrancesco, Quinn Kemp and Mali Schwarz got the double GOLD winning the 4x50m Freestyle and Medley. The B team showed the strength of the junior programme that Miki and Sam are putting together coming 6th in Freestyle and 7th in the Medley.

The 16/under Relays produced 3x Bronzes for the club. The Boys 4x50m Freestyle relay of Ethan Wildin Murrihy, Josh Tomlinson, Jacob Krayem and Thomas Raymond produced a fantastic performance to win Bronze after the Girls won double Bronze in the 4x50m Freestyle and Medley. The medley team was Jade Starr, Tiffany Mackay, Jess Mouatt and Brittany Courtney. The freestyle relay was Brittany Courtney, Nicole Sanders, Tiffany Mackay and Jade Starr.

We were so pleased with the amount of B Teams that were stepping up and lifting for the team and coming inside the top 10. Altogether we had 5 B teams place inside the top 10 out of 2 races which shows great depth.

Really looking forward to the first day of individual events!
